Project Aim:
For my report, ‘Rejecting commodity: Queerness in fashion’, I chose to focus on the commodification of queerness within the fast fashion industry. I aimed to ease current frustrations within the queer community, as elements of their identity are rapidly absorbed into mainstream narratives without meaningful representation or engagement, and provide an empowering solution.

Project approach:
I wanted to create a campaign that doesn’t feed into stereotypes or a divisive narrative, utilising primary research and input from the community to create an authentic and empowering outcome.

Project result:
I created a hypothetical campaign for Pinterest titled “Paradise Found,” inspired by Da Vinci’s The Last Supper. As the name suggests, it is a retelling of the biblical story, but unlike Milton’s epic, my reimagining aims to highlight the power of the queer community. The film unfolds to show how Pinterest serves as a platform for creativity, reclaiming the power from fast fashion and gaining authentic inspiration from your community.

Project skills:
Developing skills in film and creative direction, I organised a cast and crew of 20 people to bring my concept to life. This experience taught me leadership and problem-solving. With only two hours to film in the studio, I had to be decisive and precise, which required extensive practice and preparation beforehand. This allowed me to execute the shoot efficiently and on time.

Watch Paradise Found

Through my role as director, I was able to bring my creative vision to life while colabortating with other creative professionals to achieve a polished final outcome.

My final story board was used by all the crew members during the shoot to ensure we were on schedule and efficient.
